Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon

Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon (1 and 2) are a pair of computer games made for the Sony Playstation, vaguelly linked to the Final Fantasy series of adventures. These games are dungeon crawls (similar to Rogue or Nethack).

Chocobo birds also make an appearance in the Chocobo Racing game, and in the series of Final Fantasy adventures.

I am unsure what they have to do with the chocobo bird other than the name?
