Car is a
wheeled vehicle. "Car" is a contraction of "carriage" and formerly was a poetic term for "
chariot."
The classic definition of a carriage is a four-wheeled horse-drawn private passenger vehicle, especially one that is large and comfortable; see also stagecoach.
Nowadays, cars are used to carry people or goods.
This can be an automobile (see road transport) or a railroad car (see rail transport).
