Canadian whisky

Canadian whisky is blended multi-grain whisky. It is called rye whisky[?] although it contains proprietary blends of corn (maize), barley, and rye. It must be aged at least three years in the barrel. Well-known names include Seagram's (VO, Crown Royal), Hiram Walker, Canadian Club, and Wisers.

Canadian whisky featured prominently in illegal imports (known as bootlegging) into the US during Prohibition in the 1920s. Hiram Walker and Seagram's have distilleries on the Detroit River across from Detroit, Michigan that easily served small, fast smuggling boats. The long mainly unpatrolled US-Canadian border made smuggling fairly easy.

Joseph P. Kennedy Sr.[?] of the Boston Kennedys, made a fortune buying alcohol from Canada during Prohibition.
