Archibald Wavell

Sir Archibald Wavell, during World War II, was a British General and the commander of British Army forces in the Middle East, where he led British forces to victory over the Italians, only to be defeated by the German army.

Born May 5, 1883, Wavell attended the Winchester College and Sandhurst Military Academy[?]. He fought in the second Boer War, World War I, and World War II. After World War II, Wavell was named Viceroy of India until Indian independence was realised in 1947. He died on May 24, 1950.
