Achamenians or
Achaemenids were the ruling dynasty of ancient Persia from the time of the rise of the Persian empire under
Cyrus the Great through to the defeat of Persia by the Macedonian Greek forces under
Alexander the Great. The term derives from an ancestor of Cyrus. Cyrus established Persian control after a period of dominance by the
Medes.
