Abbottabad is a town in the Northwest Frontier Province of Pakistan, named after its founder, Sir James Abbott[?].

It was a town of British India, 4120 feet above sealevel, 63 miles from Rawalpindi[?], the headquarters of the Hazara district in the Northwest Frontier Province. Sir James Abbott[?] settled this wild district after the annexation of the Punjab. It is an important military cantonment and sanatorium, being the headquarters of a brigade in the second division of the northern army corps. In 1901 the population of the town and cantonment was 7764.
