Gerard Dewan was a fourth generation firefighter. He was the first in his family to pursue firefighting outside the Metro Boston area. He was a member of FDNY for 5 years. Gerard was assigned to Ladder 3 / Battalion 6 in the Union Square section of Manhattan. He, along with 11 of his "Brothers" from that firehouse were killed on that day. Gerard was 35 years old.
