The FUNET introduces Frame Relay technology (64Kbit/s-2Mbit/s) on its backbone network.
Numerous WWW-interface prototypes are released, including the graphics-based Erwise created at Helsinki University of Technology, but they do not yet launch the breakthrough of the Web, even though Tim Berners-Lee visits Turku to encourage use of the WWW.
Over 26 Web servers in use.
Over a million computers in the Internet.
The Internet Society (ISOC) and RIPE NCC are founded.
The first MBONE transmissions: sound in March and video in November.
