Winner of a People's Choice Award, CableACE Award and Golden Apple Award (with multiple Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations thrown in for good measure!), actress, comedian and best-selling author Ellen DeGeneres is the inspiration for "Ellen," a contemporary comedy about a single, thirtysomething urbanite striving to find her niche in LA LA Land.

Last season, Ellen Morgan's (Ms. DeGeneres) world was rocked when an earthquake destroyed Buy The Book, her struggling literary cafe. This year, Ellen experiences an internal upheaval, compelling her to reevaluate her life and embark on a radical new path, one fraught with comic complications.

Contributing to Ellen's already confused sensibility is the volatile romance between her best friend, Paige (Joely Fisher), a rising Hollywood executive; and roommate-cousin Spence (Jeremy Piven), a deposed doctor floundering in his search for the perfect career.

But it's the shocking breakup of her parents' marriage that drives Ellen back to therapy, where she decides to sell Buy The Book, purchase a home and put down roots. The path to self-discovery and fulfillment is paved with unexpected obstacles, however, including an adversarial new corporate boss who represents everything Ellen is not; and the continued challenge of keeping her employees -- acerbic java king Joe Farrell (David Anthony Higgins) and cloyingly naive Audrey Penney (Clea Lewis) -- in line.

This season, "Ellen" will continue to feature the unique and unpredictable opening title sequence that varies from week to week and showcases some of the entertainment industry's most notable stars.

The series was created by Carol Black, Neal Marlens and David Rosenthal. Dava Savel, Mark Driscoll and Vic Kaplan are the executive producers. "Ellen" is from The Black/Marlens Company in association with Touchstone Television. "Ellen" premiered as "These Friends of Mine," March 29, 1994.
